It seems that during the past couple of years, we started seeing certain body piercings coming, as if into fashion. For example, septum piercing have been in the spotlight for quite some time now. Even though, to be completely honest, you need to bow your head and look inside the nostrils to see if its a real piercing, or just a fake one! In the past there were times where brow piercings where everywhere. And do you remember all those bottom lips with a middle loop?
But we are also referring to the modern piercing jewellery. Now they are very crafty, creative and fashionable. Particularly there has been a re-vamp in industrial piercings.
Would you say some people are addicted to piercings? The type that once they get one, they want more?
To pierce or not to pierce?
Let's start with the benefits. Unlike tattoos, it is much easier to remove and it can be removed at any time, and can eventually be done again, just like jewellery. The piercing and the jewellery you use, will demonstrate your style, your character, and perhaps your beliefs. It is an additional accessory, but an edgy one.
Downsides? Clearly the main issue people fear is the pain. But from our experience of 11 years, we can confirm that this depends on the individual. Some people are more sensitive than others. Some people bleed, others don't. Large holes in the earlobe will take time to close completely, and will certainly leave a scar. Other plain piercings also may leave a small scar, especially in the nose. Finally there are those who are worried about what their employers might say.
Our advice.... if you are yet unsure whether you want a real piercing, wear a faux one for a while. See how it feels. Reflect on the comments you receive. Understand if it is something that makes you feel good or not.
And most importantly, if you decide to go ahead, make sure you go to a professional piercer and follow the after-care instructions.
