In keeping with our 'bohemian' theme, the first items that we placed in the shop were these boho dream catchers.

Boho Dream Catchers

According to Konrad J. Kaweczynski, "Only good dreams would be allowed to filter through a dream catcher... Bad dreams would stay in the net, disappearing with the light of day. While good dreams would pass through and slide down the feathers to the sleeper."

This is a giant dream catcher - the circle is an actual hoola hoop. It has over 40 feathers, 30 beads and 20 charms. It is the very first dream catcher, handmade by Bohemia. It was done on commission for a customer and themed with his bedroom's colour scheme. 

But to pay due to the name Bohemia, we had to do some real Boho dream catchers.

Here are the first we made ... 

These are not the traditional, native american dream catchers. Instead of the net they have a mandala made of lace. Along with beads and feathers, they are also have string, lace and several charms. 

The entire embellishment is of organic material; wood, horn, coconut, feathers of non-endangered species and strings of hemp and organic cotton. 

They are 20cms in diameter and some are as 90cms long.

Without doubt the most common and favourite way to style dreadlocks is by wearing dreadlock beads. These also comes as charms, cuffs and coils.

Best thing about styling and accessorizing your dreadlocks is that you don't have to spend a fortune! Check out your own jewellery box, or keep a keen eye at the charity shop or craft supplies store. Make sure you visit a second hand market or car booth sale.

Your mission is to spot anything with a hole or anything where you can put a hole into: rings, necklace charms, trinkets, seashells, pieces of tube - any of these can easily be transformed into a perfect dread bead! Be innovative and make your locks cool and attractive!


Are you crafty? Then try to make your own amazing beads with polymer clay. Its super fun and don't take much time and money. There are no limits to what you can create with polymer clay - you just need to have a bit of artistry and creativity.

The simple and irresistible

Dreadlock beads are definitely the most popular embellishment for dreadlocks.
But are they just for looking pretty or do they have actual benefits?
Well, we believe both.

As far as aesthetics goes, there is an infinite array of beads to choose from.
Different material, shape, size, colour and theme.
You can say that they are worn as jewellery.

However, there is also technical advantages for having beads.
For one, they help tame loops and bumps.
And round out flat spots.

Beads also help hold the dread together.
If you have a weak area, just fold it on itself and insert the bead to keep it in place.
Eventually your weak area will dread back on its own.

Same way beads can aid in sensitive edges.
If your folded edges are getting loose, fold the loose hair inside a preferably long bead.
The edges will fix themselves in no time.

When placing dreadlocks in your hair you might want put them from the neck down.
Otherwise it will be uncomfortable to sleep with the beads pressing on your skull.
Or remove them during the night.

Charming Beads and Delicate Rings

Decorating dreads is for me one of the best benefits of having them! And there's practically no limit to what you can put. From inserting rings and endless charms to hanging buttons and beads of any type!

I'm gonna start this post with my most favourite dread deco... seashells!
They are cool, they are organic, and they are perfect for the Summer! 

Cowry shells remind me of my Indian summer... collecting handfuls and handfuls of cowrys from the sand after the gentle waves brought them to me!

I love conchs too... can you hear the waves and the wind? Whenever I see a beautiful conch I can almost smell and taste the sea too!

If you prefer something simple and effective, try string wraps with plain beads in natural colours; they're an amazing combination.

Silver tunnel rings and brown criss-crossed string wraps look great on blond dreads.

Another idea.. make your own beaded string dread with a mix of your favourite beads and an awesome pendant at the end.

This reminds me of my friend Emma, who left for long-term travelling and before leaving asked all her friends to put something in her dreads. Soon after her hair was looking like a museum. If you like this style, just go with it, and keep adding!

Pearl beads are perfect if you have only a few dreads with your natural hair. 

Macrame hair strings come in various shapes and sizes. Include some round beads and buttons too!

If you know how to play with polymer clay these are so cool and so easy to make. Dreadlock rings for the 7 Chakras! Ohm Shanti Ohm!

Or maybe you prefer traditional Dreadlock rings.
Most organic rings you will find will be made out of coconut, bone, horn and wood.

When you fix a charm or a bead to your dreads, better to place it on the bottom half part of your hair, so that it will not press upon your skull when you are lying down.
