Nadine's Journey

Nadine came to us after a recommendation from a fellow German friend, who made dreadlocks with us a few months ago.

She expressed her wish for dreading her hair for many years and that she now feels she wants to get it done no matter what. In reality, it was not the most ideal time to spend a full day sitting on our chair, given that Nadine has an 8-month old son to take care of. Luckily, she has an amazing husband who offered to help out with baby sitting... and she also found that we are very flexible and adjusted the process to her needs and requirements.

And finally the day came and we started her journey of her long, blonde, dreadlocks.

The first part is the separation of the root hair. At this point we discuss with the client the desired thickness of the dreads. Nadine wanted medium to thin locks with natural ends.

We started at 10am and finished roughly around 7pm.
Our method consists of a long and patient process but this is the only professionral way to do dreadlocks. There are of course many short cuts one can take but it is not our style. We take this job seriously and are proud to say that in over 11 years we never had not even one single unhappy client.

And so after a full day's work, here is the job, with 25 beautiful locks.
Nadine wanted to decorate her new dreads with some dread beads. We suggested these bronze tribal beads that go very well with the colour of her hair.

Da! Da! Another happy client :)

BEFORE              AFTER

The journey of Nadine, in reality, has only just begun. For the dreadlocks journey will take approximately one year to be completed. After one year that is when dreads start to mature and take a life on its own. Until that time, dreads will require regular maintenance, patience and much love.

List of very common and normal things that happen to new dreadlocks:

* Hair will start coming out from the root
Of course the new hair that's growing will grow straight and will need to be dreadlocked.
What you can do: Every 3 months (or so) go for a maintenance session.

* Hair will start coming out from the dreads
Understand that your hair has been through a huge change so its normal for it to try and go back into its natural (unlocked) way. It just needs some time to adjust to the new 'change'
What you can do: The loctician will fix this during the maintenance sessions.

* Bumps and lumps will start to form in the dread
Sleeping is the culprit here. Your head squashes the new dreads and they flatten out.
What you can do: Palm-roll your dreads every morning to keep them in shape. In any case, your loctician will also fix this during the maintenance sessions.
